Circularity in electroplating and surface technology

Three presentations at the ZVO Surface Technology Days 2025 on the morning of 26 September will be dedicated to the topic of circularity - in processes, products and product design. This is because the concept of circularity is becoming increasingly important in modern electroplating and surface technology.

Sustainability issues are playing an increasingly important role in a wide range of industries, be it restrictions on the use of certain chemicals or the use of energy and resources. Energy and resource-intensive industries in particular and their value creation are facing major challenges and opportunities both now and in the future.

The strategies, risks and opportunities available are illustrated using a surface treatment company as an example. On the way to climate neutrality by 2030, the roadmap will be visualised, technologies will be shown and practical examples will be provided.

Another presentation will showcase a sealant that consists of more than 60 per cent renewable raw materials and report on its adaptation to the requirements of car manufacturers and suppliers.

A central component of the research is the development of a standard that makes it possible to individually compile anodes from a product catalogue. A presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of innovative approaches to these modular anodes and show how circularity in electroplating and surface technology can be improved through targeted measures in product design and utilisation.
