This time, the Female SurFaces session will focus on changes in the world of work and their specific impact on the industry. Whilst the main focus is on women’s perspectives, the discussion will be deliberately broadened to include different generations, cultural backgrounds and life experiences. The aim is to provide impetus for an attractive, respectful and sustainable working culture in surface technology. This is because the world of work is undergoing profound change, from which surface technology cannot escape.
To kick things off, a concise keynote presentation will provide an overview of relevant developments. It will highlight facts about the transformation of work, as well as key trends such as the skills shortage, automation, AI and demographic change. It will also demonstrate what these developments mean in concrete terms for tasks, roles and qualification requirements. These changes have an impact on collaboration, communication, training and leadership, as well as on appreciation and psychological safety in the workplace. Surveys and insights from Female SurFaces’ activities provide an insight into real-life experiences within the industry and demonstrate how these changes are perceived, particularly by women, but also in the interplay between different generations and backgrounds.
This will be followed by a panel discussion on the question: ‘Between expectations and everyday reality: how fair is our working culture really?’ It will build on the points raised in the presentation and provide a space for open, critical and constructive discussion. The discussion will cover challenges such as discrimination, stereotypical role models and subtle breaches of boundaries in everyday working life. It will also address tensions and misunderstandings between genders, generations and cultures, and how companies can foster a respectful and inclusive working culture.
During the concluding interactive marketplace, ideas and solutions for a successful future will be developed. At three themed stands, key questions for the industry’s future will be addressed, visualised and moderated, ensuring that information, dialogue and active participation are given equal emphasis. Participants are invited to get actively involved and share their experiences on the following topics and questions:
- The attractiveness of the electroplating industry as an employer: How can the visibility of careers in surface technology be increased? How can we attract the next generation of talent? How can careers in surface technology be made more appealing to different target groups – particularly women and young people?
- Transformation in the world of work: What impact are digitalisation and AI having on the world of work? How are tasks, working methods and collaboration changing?
- Topics for Female SurFaces: Which ‘burning’ issues should Female SurFaces address?
