Real-world claims cases and claims analysis to prevent errors and reduce costs

An OT session on the afternoon of 17 September 2026 will address the important topic of investigating the causes of, and preventing, damage incidents. This is because if damage to coated components is detected immediately after coating or during subsequent use, this can have far-reaching consequences: ranging from high financial costs to safety or compensation issues.

Bacterial contamination in electroplating baths can lead to the formation of biofilms, localised corrosion and uneven deposition. The consequences include surface defects, increased costs due to rework and premature bath replacement. The first presentation explains how routine monitoring of bacteria can improve process reliability and reduce operating costs in electroplating processes. Various approaches to microbial detection are presented and discussed in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. 

Another presentation shows typical damage patterns on steel components with MnS lines, explains the underlying cause-and-effect relationships and provides practical guidance for successful pre-treatment and stable electroplating of such materials.

In the event of damage, it is important to identify the cause(s) as quickly as possible. Another key focus is on deriving recommendations for action for production and quality management.
The final presentation will present systematic investigations into cases of damage to galvanised components. Using selected case studies, the methodological approach will be described, and comprehensive analytical investigation methods as well as typical damage patterns will be demonstrated.
